Newborn Photos | 38 Day Old Sophia | Kingston Ontario Photographer

I just had to show you some favourites from 38 day old Sophia’s newborn photography session in the studio! She was a dream to photograph, sleeping through a lot of set ups but also showing off big, beautiful eyes for some wide awake portraits too. Her hair is glorious but you’ll see why when you see that Mom and Dad both have gorgeous hair too!!!

Newborn Photography Colour Choices

When choosing your colour palette for your newborn photos, don’t be afraid to tell me two colour palette’s. Her parents loved some pretty purple and pink colours and I went with a bit of Spring theme after they told me they really wanted one of the flower bed set ups like you’ll see in the first one.

Choosing Newborn Composite Sets

Sophia’s parents also really loved a few different composites that I offer - which adds a lot of whimsy to a session. A composite is where I take a pre-made backdrop set up that may be hard and time consuming to make during a session - plus for as many props as I have (which are hundreds), I just can’t have them all, so I purchase templates that I love and offer them to clients based on the colour palettes they have asked for. I have quite the collection and am always adding more to give a great variety of options to each client. So Sophia’s parents had chose some ahead of time that they really wanted and I was able to plan the session with those composites in mind (using the right colour backdrops helps me put baby’s picture in the studio into the right colour composite.

Composites Made Easy

You’ll see some examples below with butterfly flowers and tulips that are composites and not created in the studio. While it isn’t necessary to choose a composite, it is an option for all Newborn Session Collections, free of charge. I will add composites to your Newborn Online Private Gallery where you will choose which images you would like me to edit. If you are choosing a composite then you’ll add the composite you like and the image that will be placed into it into your favourites folder. I’ll help with that when the time comes. But if you love a composite that you’ve seen on my website and really want it in your session you can definitely let me know during the planning process!

Choosing Your Favourite Newborn Portraits For Editing

Her parents are just in love with her and the whole family is in love with the portraits we created together. It made it hard to choose from a large gallery of non-edited choices but they came up with some beautiful choices that showed off their baby girl at this incredible stage of her life and have become some of my favourites. I really enjoyed editing them and was delighted to hear that they loved them!

What my Clients Had To Say About Their Photos

“They turned out so beautifully, we are very impressed. “

I love hearing that!! I love that my Art makes such a huge impact in the lives of my clients. That they can look at these photos, year after year, and see how much their little girl has grown. It’s such an honour to be asked to create portraits of their beautiful baby girl.

Don’t you just love that Spring Inspired Colour Palette that her parents chose? So fun and beautiful!! Some of my favourites that I’ve ever taken!!! Love them!

Choosing A Second Colour Palette

While I do recommend choosing 2-4 colours or one of my pre-made colour palettes for your newborn photo set ups, sometimes a client will just love more than one. And that’s okay! We can definitely work with more than one colour palette and fusing those colours together. Sophia’s parents really loved the grey and purple colour palette I offer as well and so I kept this colour palette simple with blanket and dried flower headband and Sophia rocked this portion of the session with asleep and wide awake portraits with the best expressions.

Here are a few from that set up!

Parent and Baby Portraits - Classic Family Portraits

We had fun choosing different poses for family portraits as well as for Mom and Baby and Dad and Baby portraits and Sophia was very cooperative for all of them. I really love how happy her parents look - their first official family portrait. I create classic poses that make the focus be on the parents so that you can see their love for their baby without distracting background features.

I hope you like some of their favourites like I do!

Backlit Family Portraits in Black and White

I do love adding in these signature black and white family portraits where the focus of the parents is on their baby and not on the camera. Something about black and white portraits, backlit, just get past all the colour and go straight to the emotion. Know what I mean?

Such a beautiful newborn session! The clients loved the portraits so much they upgraded to the highest collection - definitely took that as a compliment, although I think it was mostly because Sophia is gorgeous ;)

Want Beautiful Newborn Photos Like This?

Get in touch with me today to book in your newborn session. If you are in your 2nd/3rd trimester, now is the time to book to secure your spot in our calendar. We book in your tentative due date and then when baby makes their appearance we give a few date options for you to choose from to come into the studio. We recommend babies be between 6-21 days old when they come into the studio but we know NICU stays and life happens so will create newborn sets for babies under 90 days old. 38 Day Old Sophia is just one example of an older newborn getting great newborn portraits. And her parents were thrilled with the results! While baby likes to stretch out more, with a bit of patience we usually are able to create sleepy portraits at older ages (though we go into the session with the expectation that that might not happen despite our best efforts). Get in touch with Jen today to chat about your baby’s newborn photos and get beautiful keepsakes of your baby before they grow up. They will only be this little for a short time!

Jennifer Willard Photography is located in Odessa, Ontario and serves Kingston, Belleville, Brockville, Perth and surrounding areas. Her studio is full of fun and colourful props in a rainbow of colours including neutrals so she can create sets that reflect your personal style. Our studio recommends getting in touch with Jen to book at least 2 months before your baby is born but check to see if there is any last minute availability in her calendar so you don’t miss out on great baby photos!
