WHAT TO WEAR FOR MATERNITY PHOTOS

TOP 6 INCREDIBLE LOOKS TO CHOOSE FROM

I love to be creative in the studio and outdoors during your Maternity Photos. And while I have ideas on what I would like to photograph with each client, each client is different and unique and their session poses and what they choose to wear will be unique to them. I will plan a loose plan for your session based on your chosen outfits and the ‘looks’ you see below.

Some Mom’s are extra adventurous during their Maternity Photoshoot while others would prefer to stay in their comfort zone. There is no wrong answer! Whatever works best for you, is what works best for me.

Check out the ‘looks’ below to see the various options you have in the studio and outdoors. We will take what you like the most and customize your session based on the outfit choices and come up with a unique session that is perfect for you. Each collection comes with a set number of ‘looks’ so you can have your collection consists of only outfits from our client closet or a combination of any of the ‘looks’ on this page. Please specifically let me know the ‘looks’ you like best and then we’ll go over clothing choices.

If you need help deciding which ‘looks’ would work best for you please let me know! I’m happy to help!

LOOK #1 - CHOOSE AN OUTFIT FROM OUR CLIENT CLOSET

We have such a variety of dresses in our Maternity Client Closet for you to choose from as well as bodysuits and shawls and we’re always adding new items whenever we find something we think our clients will love. There’s definitely something for everyone’s tastes and our sizes range from S-3x. From classic silhouettes to fairytale dresses with soft tulle and exquisite hand beading, you are sure to find a dress you just love!

We encourage you to browse our Maternity Client Closet page to choose the best ‘looks’ for you by letting us know the outfit you would like to use during your session. Many of the dresses can be clipped in the back to make smaller so be sure to check out the dress size descriptions to see if there is stretch to the material. Please specify your dress during the planning process so we can pair it with a backdrop that will go well with it and add variety to your final portfolio of images.

LOOK #2 - CREATE A FABRIC LOOK ON A SOLID COLOUR BACKDROP

Fabric looks are a great way to add variety to a classic Maternity Session. You can be more covered up or be more adventurous and show more skin. It is completely up to your comfort level. We have fabrics in different hues and usually pair the coloured fabrics with a backdrop colour that goes well with it. We do recommend being in nude underwear or go nude underneath the fabric if you wanted more skin showing and less fabric, depending on comfort level. Bring a hair elastic or clip to change up your look!

LOOK #3 - BLACK AND WHITE LOOKS ON WHITE BACKDROP USING ‘BACKLIT’ LIGHT WITH BOUDOIR STYLE OUTFITS OR MORE SOPHISTICATED OUTFITS

“Backlit” means I get you to stand in front of the light so the light shines through from behind you, rather than our other lighting which comes from beside you. White fabric looks great backlit as well as white undergarments, our white lace robe, white lace dress, or open front dress which you can see by going to our client closet page link above. We love creating these looks in black and white and find that it really showcases your bump. Adding Dad in for some belly portraits works great too! Mom’s love our white crochet dress from our client closet but any white form fitting dress would do paired with Dad in a white shirt. If you would like to try this look, please specify if you would like white fabric, or one of our specific client closet options or if you will just come in your white undergarments or a combination of those. We do recommend bringing a hair elastic or clip to put your hair up for that image to change up the look and wearing nude (or white if you don’t have nude) underwear underneath the fabric if you wanted to be more covered up. Some Mom’s choose to go nude underneath and we cover up anything you want covered.

You can be really adventurous in this dream photoshoot by doing a profile pose, going full nude with your hand holding your breasts so nothing is showing to the camera.

LOOK #4 - BLACK AND WHITE INTIMATE BOUDOIR STYLE MATERNITY PORTRAITS ON BLACK BACKDROP

This classic and timeless portrait in black and white really focuses on the belly shape. When a partner is added to this ‘look’ it can be the kind of portrait you will love to display on your bedroom wall to remember the connection and bond the two of you have with each other.

We recommend a black bra and underwear set for Mom and your partner can choose to wear a shirt or go shirtless with jeans. If you want this look for your session please let us know if your partner will be joining you for this ‘look’ as well so we can plan different poses for both you by yourself and you with your partner.

LOOK #5 - CHOOSE TO BRING JEANS FROM HOME FOR A CASUAL MATERNITY OUTFIT LOOK

Jeans are such an everyday staple that you may not think they would make a great ‘look’ for your maternity portraits. But we think the opposite! Bringing jeans that don’t do up all the way is a really classic maternity look. We’ve shown a couple of examples here of how you can show off your belly with jeans. We have beaded shawls that can be added to give you the first look below or you can add a bodysuit from our collection or yours to jeans too.

We love that jeans and bra look but also have shawls that can give you a bit more coverage as shown in the first image, or feel free to bring in your favourite jean or leather jacket or crop top to complete the look.

You’ll see the Calvin Klein look of one couple who work out together and wanted that classic look. But you could just as easily pair your jeans with a beautiful blouse you have at home.

If you want the jeans look during your session please send us a picture of the type of jeans and let us know if you plan on pairing it with any specific top or just a bra so we can plan a backdrop accordingly.

LOOK #6 - BRING AN OUTFIT FROM HOME TO WEAR IN YOUR STUDIO OR OUTDOOR MATERNITY PHOTOS

Maybe you have a beautiful bridal robe you’d like to incorporate, or a really fun romper? Maybe a power suit or a leather jacket with Doc Martin boots or a fun piece of lingerie. An outfit from home can be as simple or sophisticated as you want it to be.

We love how these two Moms brought in something that they loved and we were able to create poses that were fun and showed off their bellies still.

If you want to incorporate a fun clothing piece from home for one of your looks during your session please send us a picture of it, or you in it and let us know if you plan on pairing it with anything so we can plan a backdrop and pose accordingly.
