Christmas Mini Sessions 2022 | Kingston Family Photography

This year’s Christmas Mini Sessions in our portrait studio were a huge success!  The families all had big smiles and had fun, which is the most important part! It was a great way to celebrate the holidays.

I really wanted to get back to the basics this year in my photography, and not use as many Christmas props as I have in the past.  I wanted this year’s portraits to really be about the connection between Mothers and Fathers, their relationship with their kids and the bonds that siblings shared.  I wanted my clients to be the star of the show!

I chose this super pretty evergreen colour of seamless paper and had a vision of adding snow to the set.  This year I decided to have a bit less mess than year’s past with snow overlays I could add in photoshop instead of using the artificial snow I have bags of from previous Christmas sets.  It also allowed clients to not go home with snow sticking to their clothes like in the past! LOL

I offered this simple set and suggested families either wear Christmas pajamas or fancy clothes and they didn’t disappoint.  Everyone came into the studio looking great!  I was able to add a smaller set for the baby’s celebrating their First Christmas and added a bit of whimsy to that set with snowflakes, evergreen trees, and our fun red bed that’s just perfect for this time of year.

We gave all of our clients a wide variety of poses in their proofing galleries and we’re excited to share some of their favourites from their time with me.

I really enjoy Christmas Mini Sessions in our studio because we don’t have to worry about rescheduling sessions if the weather is bad outside.  Everything is exactly as we want them to be in the studio.  The only thing we had to contend with this year was making sure everyone was feeling healthy.  We have had a strict no sickness policy in effect since Covid began (and really, it’s been there since we opened our doors in 2011).  While I was going to wear a mask for all our Christmas Mini’s (and have been for every session since Covid began), I wanted to make sure I was spacing out the families so that we could air out the studio and clean all surfaces between clients.  With ample time between sessions, it meant we took on less clients this year but we knew we were doing all we could to make sure everyone felt safe, comfortable and it could be germ free.

All this preparation for our time together didn’t stop the RSV going around to make it’s way into my home unfortunately and we had to reschedule our date to a new weekend.  Everyone was very understanding and with the amount of rescheduling we’ve dealt with these past few months because of the RSV going around in the Kingston area, we’ve all had to have just as much patience as we needed during the height of Covid.  But the reschedules went well, and the families loved their portraits from our Christmas Mini Session.

It really was a joy to meet new clients and see repeat clients that we’ve loved photographing over the years.  I’m happy to share some of their favourites from our time together and I look forward to dreaming up next year’s Christmas Set Up!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you celebrating with your family and friends at this time of year! We can’t wait to share the love of photography with all of you in the New Year! Thank you for supporting our family business in 2022 and we hope to see you in 2023!

With love,

Jen and family
